I recently discovered reusable produce bags. I hate bringing my produce home in plastic bags (I do recycle them) but I need some way to corral a dozen apples or a few pounds of sweet potatoes. I could have ordered some online but, being a little crafty, I thought I could make some myself. So the other night I bought some tulle and gave it a try (I had some extra ribbon at home). I made them a little larger than necessary and I didn’t get the drawstring right until my second attempt. Otherwise I’m fairly happy with them. I haven’t been shopping since, but tonight I’ll be at the grocery store and try them out. I'll let you know how they work.
Edited to add: Tutorial now posted!
Love it! What a fabulous idea :) I had some of the reusable produce bags at one point, and they've since gone MIA. :P I'll have to try your idea ~ did you sew them? About how big did you make them? ooo, post a pattern or directions and let us try! =D
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a creative and useful idea. How did you do the drawsting? Do tell...:)
ReplyDeleteI thought your apples looked better than usual in the tulle bag :) This might be a fun and unique gift idea as opposed to a basket of apples or other fruit. Mix up some apples, pears, oranges, whole walnuts etc, and you have a lovely, healthy gift for someone.
The apples do look much better in green :) I'll try to write up some sewing directions. I'll have to think about how to explain the drawstring.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by the Pink Heels blog and introducing me to your fabulous blog! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteYou should seriously consider selling these produce bags on etsy.com. Since I am not crafty, I would buy them in a heartbeat as I too hate to use plastic for produce!
Keep up the great work!
